Jason Clemons Biography
At the helm of Vitruvius Heritage is Jason Clemons, who is widely regarded as one of the country’s leading heritage planning experts.
Jason graduated from Oxford Polytechnic in 1991 with a BA (Hons) degree in Planning Studies and an MA in Urban Design, and then earned an MSc in Historic Conservation at Oxford Brookes University in 1995. He became a Chartered member of the RTPI in 1994 and a founding member of the IHBC in 1997.
Jason began his professional career in the public sector, spending the first 10 years in a variety of planning and built conservation roles at three different local authorities in Essex, Hampshire and Surrey. He later moved to the private sector and became a
Partner in 2002 at the well respected Godalming consultancy
D&M Planning Partnership.
In 2013, Jason was recruited by CgMs, one of the UK’s top planning and heritage consultancies based in the City of London, to head their built heritage team. After growing the team from three to 25 consultants, Jason was ready for his next challenge and moved to WYG. In 2018, Jason joined Savills, where he established a new heritage planning team based primarily at their headquarters in London, with regional delivery in Dorset and Manchester as well. As Head of Heritage and Townscape, Jason has enabled Savills
to become a nationwide heritage consultancy.
Having worked for extensive periods of time in both public and private sectors, Jason has an in-depth understanding of the mechanics of the English town and country planning system, and how best to work with all of those involved to deliver success where heritage is an issue.
Jason has advised a wide range of organisations and companies on heritage planning matters, including national and regional housebuilders, Government Departments (including the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS), Ministry of Justice (MoJ), and Ministry of Defence (MoD)), the Metropolitan Police, Guys and St. Thomas’ Foundation Trust, Historic Royal Palaces, Charterhouse School and Oxford University Colleges.
After 10 years of establishing and growing heritage consultancy services within some of the UK’s largest planning consultancies, Jason has decided to establish a free-standing heritage consultancy in which he can bring to clients a single-minded focus on delivering robust, experienced advice that enables them to achieve optimal results in the planning system.
